Book Blogger Hop – July 28

This week’s question:

Do you read tie-in novels to movies or television series? If so, which ones?

(submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

I have read some books that were based on movies or TV shows, but I don’t typically seek them out. I feel like most stories have a purpose when they are written in a certain medium. It’s probably why so many books have movies that aren’t as good. It’s because the original was meant to be a book. It’s the same with shows and movies. Sometimes, those books have an off feeling to me and it’s because it was never meant to exist in book form. Obviously, there are always exceptions, but that’s kind of my general opinion.

  1. I’ve read a lot of tie-in novels over the years. Like everything in life, some are good, some are not so good and some are in-between. For me, a tie-in novel can is mental bubble-gum — fun and tasty while I’m chewing it, but quickly forgotten once I’m done.

And there are some that just don’t work for me because it has the characters I’m familiar with acting in ways that don’t jive with the original versions.

Then there are those that I out and out love because the novel connects threads from the show or universe in different ways. In the world of Star Trek publishing, this is most books by Peter David.
